Molds

The Nancy Ann Storybook Bisque Dolls can be divided into the following categories according to there molds:

Dolls produced in Japan.

Dolls produced in California with jointed legs.

Dolls produced in California with frozen legs.

Nancy Ann StoryBook Dolls produced in Japan were small bisque dolls with molded painted hair and a ribbon through a topknot on her head. Some dolls came with wool glued on wig then mohair was used for the wig. If the doll had a wig, the hair remained unpainted. The face had red puckered lips, rosy cheeks, and long black eyelashes.

There were three different molds imported from Japan. They were marked on the back with the mold mark "Made in Japan 1146/1148" circ. 1936; "Impressed Fan with number 8" circ. 1936; and "Japan" circ. 1936. Dolls made in Japan measured 4-7/8 inches tall.

Nancy Ann Storybook Dolls with jointed legs were produced in California in 1938 and originally were marked "America" on the upper back. These dolls measured 5-1/4 inches tall. The "America" marked was used for a very short time and was changed to "Judy Ann". These dolls had strung arms and legs with molded socks or painted slippers. The dolls also had molded bangs. These Nancy Ann Storybook Dolls had slightly shorter left arm.
